27th edition of the international marble and machinery exhibition
Carrara is the setting for »Carraramarmotec 2006«, the 27th edition of the international marble and machinery exhibition, from 31 May to 3 June. The event will occupy an even bigger area than ever before, as a new exhibition hall is being taken into service. The total display area is now 46,000 m², with 30,000 m² in covered halls.
The organizer Internationale Marmi e Machine (IMM) talks of a »strategically important event« for the Italian marble and granite industry. The background to this statement is another decline of Italian stone exports in the first nine months of the previous year. According to IMM, exports of the relevant natural stone product groups (blocks, rough slabs, finished products) dropped by 3 % in value and 2.5 % in quantity. Exports of finished products fell by as much as 5 % in value and 7 % in quantity.
As usual, Carraramarmotec has various highlights in store in its supporting programme. These include an appearance of the architect Mario Botta, the presentation of the »Marble Architectural Awards 2006« and an event entitled »Women Architects and Stone Design«.
